Forclaz Rain overtrousers protect the lower half of your body for a complete and effective rain protection system for your mountain outings. Care products: waterproofing spray or liquid in the machine To renew the fabric's water repellent properties and optimise performance throughout the lifespan of your garment.
    8. Waterproof component
We measure a fabric's resistance to water pressure, expressed as a water column of mm (based on the ISO 811 standard). The higher the water pressure withstood, the more waterproof the fabric. Components scoring 2000 mm can resist the pressure from 2000 mm of water (which is equivalent to a rain shower lasting two hours).
    9. Waterproofing
This garment has been shower-tested using 100 litres of water/sqm/hour for 3 hours. This test reproduces the conditions of a violent storm in the mountains.
    10. Component breathability
In addition to breathable fabrics, Quechua develops technical solutions (zips, ventilation, mesh, etc.) to improve the overall ventilation of its trekking jackets and overtrousers (Forclaz, Bionnassay and Helium lines). These ventilation systems allow you to regulate the temperature inside the garment and also to facilitate the transfer of perspiration generated by the body during physical effort.
    11. Component with coating or a membrane
Coating: like a layer of "paint" applied on the underside of the fabric to make it waterproof while remaining breathable. It is often less costly than a membrane, and requires a lining for protection. The membrane: is like a very fine plastic film (polyurethane) making the component waterproof while remaining breathable. It has the edge, being more supple, lightweight, durable and often more breathable than coating.
    12. Consists of 3, 2 or 2.5 layers
3 layers: the membrane is bonded to an inner and outer layer of the component. This construction helps the membrane last longer and boosts the component's performance. 2 layers: the membrane is only bonded to the outer layer, the inner protective lining is free. This construction costs less but is generally more cumbersome. 2.5 layers: the membrane has inner protection with a kind of varnish coating rather than an actual layer to make it as lightweight as possible
    13. Water repellency
A fabric is water repellent when it allows water slide over its surface without seeping in. This prevents the fabric from swelling, and keeps it lightweight, breathable and warm. The water repellent property is achieved by treating the fabric's exterior. This treatment must be renewed throughout the garment's lifetime (recommended after every three washes). All Quechua waterproof jackets have received water-repellent treatment.
    14. Comparative note on the environmental impact of products
The environmental impact of each product is calculated for the product's entire life cycle, using different indicators. A general ABCDE mark is attributed to help you identify the best environmental performance by comparing products to each other (t-shirts, rucksacks, etc). Decathlon is a voluntary supporter of the environmentally-friendly labelling approach. For more information visit:
    15. A score for comparing products' environmental impact
The product's environmental impact is calculated across its entire life cycle using different indicators. An overall ABCDE score is attributed to help you more readily identify the products with the best environmental performance by comparing the same type of product (T-shirts, trousers, backpacks, etc.). Decathlon is committed to visually displaying environmental information. For more information visit:

      Refined jacket, some quirky details

As usual the price is a steal compared to the big outdoor brands. For me this jacket is an addition, or possibly a replacement, for a pretty comparable Haglöfs jacket that was more than 5 times as expensive! Now during sales, it is even 25% off again.

Just inspecting this jacket, it is a pretty serious outdoor (mountaineering) jacket. Short cut, pretty good adjustable hood, ventilation zippers, breathable fabric, taped seams, Velcro adjustment of the cuffs, water resisting zippers for the side-pockets and ventilations. It is all very neatly made. And I quite like the colour combination, a nice matt blue with yellow details.

      There are some quirky details.
      - Breast pockets are pretty essential to me. I want them big, I want them well accessible, and I want 2 of them! In the past I have even adjusted 2 Quechua fleece jackets myself to get that. It is a pity that on this jacket Decathlon has added just one again. It is not particularly small, but it seems small because the zipper is a bit too short and is not placed very practical.
      - The sleeves are mysteriously long. When I compare it to the Haglöfs jacket, which has a very comparable width and length, the sleeves are about 10 cms longer! Fortunately there are the Velcro adjustments to make it usable.
      - The hood lacks a vertical drawcord to keep the hood out the eyes.
      - The main zipper could be of a more robust quality.

I have just been able to test it during some extended (light) rain. So far it worked well and kept me dry. At first it even shed drops off the fabric. That effect is of limited duration, but the main shell kept me dry.

The breathability is hard to compare. Under dry conditions it can easily get a bit too warm and stuffy. But I do not think it does a bad job.

Excellent wind and rainproof jacket. Only slight criticism is that the sizes come up a bit small and arms a bit long but that's probably because I'm shaped like a orangutan. If you want to use this as part of a layering system definitely go up a size to your normal as it is a " slim" fit. But overall an excellent jacket at a great price.
    • Nearly perfect

The waterproofing is very good. I've taken it out for walks in pouring rain and it remains dry after an hour. There are just two issues though that make it merit only a four star rating, one minor and one major:

Minor: the tape seams aren't perfect and are the first to leak after about 45 minutes.

Major: the orange lining on the inner bottom side is water absorbing. Water that slides off the front on to your trousers will be absorbed by this lining and will then travel up to the pockets, which are not waterproof on the inside. If you put your phone there, it WILL get wet. You must put your phone in a plastic pouch or in the chest pocket further up.

I wish the lining was water repellent or the pockets were internally waterproof. Either would have avoided this problem.
