Riding with under-inflated tyres reduces your battery range, requires more pedalling effort, and increases the risk of punctures. - Before performing any work on your electric bike (cleaning, electrical or mechanical maintenance), you must remove the battery and turn off any power supply.

    • A Review in Context

      Robert (United Kingdom)
Used for 2 to 8 weeks
Sometime after a diagnosis of heart failure, I decided an electrically assisted pedal cycle might be a way to increase my exercise and fitness levels. I tried a competitor's bike at an accommodating retailer and enjoyed the experience but the price was beyond affordable (to me). I have previously owned a Decathlon bike that I was pleased with and after searching the market opted for this one whilst being aware that it would not and could not be perfect at the price.

It was irritating, haing made the decision to buy, that I had to wait a week between ordering and delivery. When the bike arrived it had clearly not been very well packed as the box fell off when it was removd from the delivery van. However, DHL had contacted me ahead of delivery to inform me that there was potentially a problem and the delivery driver was quite happy to note that the package was accepted without proper inspection. I was impressed by the couriers.

Having put the few parts together the only obvious fault was a scratch on the handlebar stem and a small discount was offered against the purchase price when I forwarded a photo. This was accepatable. One other problem was that the bike appeared to have to me direct from the continent and so there was no adapter for a UK power supply, but this was sent out as soon as Decathlon was informed - but it was another delay in putting my new expensive toy to use.

I have now ridden 99 kilometers and the bike is doing exactly what I want it to in that it allows me to exercise at a fairly constant heart rate for extended periods. Progress can be as slow or as rapid as you want as I have found that irrespective of the level of assistance selected, the rider's effort is maintained at about the point where the assistance cuts out; consequently I tend to set it to the second level and sail on merrily. I did get caught in a rainshower and turned the level up to three to get home quicker!

Along the way I have made a few adjustments to the positioning of bits on the handlebars to account for the fact that I am a big man with big hands, but that is fine. I have found that the tyres are not brilliant at holding pressure and both have had to be reinflated at different times.

Two things to bear in mind for potential purchasers:
You do need to be aware that the bike accelerates more rapidly than you might be used to at road junctions and roundabouts.
It is heavy. This is not too much of a problem when being ridden, but manouevering to park it can be tricky.

Tim South Yorkshire, UK The styling of the bike is quite good but the lack of support for the electrical elements of the bike is disconcerting. As others have commented it also lacks power on steeper hills and on these goes through battery like butter. If you want to travel any real distance it is best to push the bike up these steeper hills, cycle manually on flat and down hill stretches and save your battery power for assist on gentler climbs.
