    • Tribal 540...brilliant !

      David (United Kingdom)
Used for 2 to 8 weeks
My old winter training was ready for retirement and months of reading reviews and 're reading and I kept coming back to the same bike the turban 540. My nearest store is Sheffield, full marks to the bike section staff. Very friendly, knew the product inside out and once I made my decision the bike was ready to take away very quickly.
The bike is an absolute peach ! I wanted a winter training bike but not a heavy sluggish hack.....the 540 is lovely to ride ,quick steering and hardly any harshness through the frame ,the 105 gears are slick and shifting feels on a par with my other bikes. The saddle has been changed as I prefer my San Marco with cut out . I 've added mudguards and there is plenty of clearance.
Well done decathlon the 540 is bang on the money.
    • Satisfied with the bike but not the assembly

      William (United Kingdom)
Used for 1 week or less
This is my second road bike but a serious upgrade to my first one, which featured claris/tourney components. The shifting on this bike feels immaculate and the geometry of the bike suits me much more for commutes as it is a more relaxed. I have not had a problem with the range of gears even though my commute is a mix of descents, ascents and flats, overall this bike is a joy to ride. It is not fully equipped with 105 but things like the breaks feel powerful enough for me. I also replaced the tyres with continental 4 seasons 28mm right off the bat.

However, I feel quite hard done by in terms of the assembly of my bike. Out of the box the front derailleur would not shift up from the small ring to the big ring. This wasn't an easy fix at all since firstly I didn't have the right tools at hand and secondly the cables for this fd groupset are notoriously hard to pull tight anyway. My options were to ride the 1 hour journey to my nearest decathlon on a road bike with dodgy front derailleur cables and shifting or send the bike back through a carrier. I ended up forking out £30 at a LBS for labor and cable replacement. I do not think I can recommend buying a bike online unless you live feasibly close to a Decathlon.
    • Excellent

Great road bike. Nothing to dislike. You will need to Chang the tyres like with most bikes. Especially for punctures.
    • Amazing bike just be careful of the tyres

      Thomas (United Kingdom)
Used for 3 to 6 months
This was my first bike into the relatively unknown world of cycling. It's been amazing. Its light, fast and epic to descend on. I regularly descend hitting speeds in excess of 35 mph, once or twice hitting 50 mph. This is because the Mavic rims are hardly affected by gusts or crosswind; inspiring confidence to the rider.
This is the only bike that you will find brand new with a 105 groupset under £700, and is a testament itself as to how good the bike is. Buttery smooth shifting under loads at all cadences.
The frame holds its own mark as well, with little to no flex, but also comfy as it soaks up each and every bump, due to the carbon fork. It is also relatively light for aluminium frame.
I must admit the tyres do hold this, otherwise excellent bike back, and after 1,500 mile i swapped them for grippier and faster rolling tyre which have transformed the breaking and handling of the bike.
I cannot tell you how amazing this bike is to ride; as it's taken me from doing a 19 mile loop in 1 hour 15 minute loop to now doing it in 51 mins (thats 23.2 mph average!) Its brill for a daily commuter or a first road bike.
But be warned this bike is addictive. You will not be able to stop riding.
    • Triban 540 flatbar

      Tony (United Kingdom)
Used for 7 to 12 months
I have a 2017 Triban 540 flatbar with a 10 speed 12-28 cassette. It is a great bike and very good value for money but I would like a lower bottom gear, would either a 32 or 34 be compatible with the Tiagra shifter? If I need a new chain, which should I have?
      Response of the brand
Here is the user manual link for the Tiagra rear derailleur:
You will need 5-6mm gap between your jockey wheel and the largest sprocket. You will need to adjust the B limit screw to achieve this correct spacing. If not, your derailleur will not function correctly.
It seems that the 34T will be OK as you have a long cage rear mech on your bike. Thankfully, the shifter has no bearing on the rear derailleur's ability to reach the 34T.
You will need a 10 speed compatible chain and the manual enclosed tells you how to shorten the chain if required as you will need a new chain as you current one will be too short.
If you're not sure, drop a line to your local Decathlon store workshop who can provide further assistance over the telephone or in person.
